The Quarantined Deity.

 

A couple days back, our Prime Minister through an adress on national television announced a complete lock-down for 21 days to contain the mayhem caused by COVID-19. He even warned of consequences of violating it.

I agree that this was needed in the larger interest of public. There arise circumstances when fundamental rights of the citizens must be restricted in the interest of the public at large. As an old saying goes 'desperate times call for desperate measures'.
However, this measure was not intended to affect the supply of essential commodities and medicines. Also the essential services such as police, defence, postal services have been kept out of its purview. 

Why this CM sir?

If you go through the list of essential services, you won't be able to find visiting the temple in the list. But you will be surprised to know that when the entire nation was facing the curfew like situation and when many violators of the lock-down were being hit by lathis of police, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh took courage to visit the site designated for Ram Mandir. He was there to shift Lord Ramlalla within the temple site.

Was this the immunity or urgency? Immunity to CM sir that COVID-19, like other tragedies remains at an arms length from political big guns. 

Or the urgency to shift lord Ramlalla to a secure place away from the reach of the deadly virus.

Well the latter arguments holds strength in the light of the unanimous verdict of the apex court in the most highlighted dispute of the decade. By the end of 2019, the Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case was resolved, wherein a five-judge Supreme Court bench declared Ram Lalla as a juristic person.

It might be the case that having been recognised as a juristic person, CM sir would have been more cautious to quarantine Ramlalla else it might have adversely affected sentiments of the worshipers.

कोर्ट से बचने की खातिर
ये कहते हैं फ़िर राष्ट्रपति  से 
एक आर्डिनेन्स तो पास करो
हमको बचना है दुर्गति से 

ये चुनाव जब जीतें तो
हम अक्सर पछताते हैं
इनको फ़िर अब न सीट मिले
हम फ़िर से यही मनाते हैं

Bold Judgment: Conviction of Anand Mohan

This decision will be of utmost importance to the Indian masses. It’s also a thrash on the faces of those who think that India is a country, where money and power decide the future of the justice. As our Supreme Court has rightly upheld the conviction of the former MP, Anand Mohan, I am glad that such a major jolt has been felt by the blind politicians. But still I am not satisfied by the judgment as I think that the decision should not have been much delayed also the culprits must have been granted much harsher punishment - as this cases, in my opinion falls in the rare of rarest cases.

SC upholds life term to Anand Mohan in murder case 
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a plea by former Lok Sabha MP Anand Mohan against his conviction and life sentence in the 1994 murder of erstwhile Gopalganj Dist Magistrate G Krishnaiah.

A bench of justices A K Patnaik and Madan B Lokur also rejected an appeal by the Bihar government that sought enhancement of Anand Mohan's punishment to death sentence and its appeals against acquittal of all other accused including his wife Lovely Anand in the case.

The cross appeals were filed against the December 2008 verdict of the Patna High Court, which had commuted Anand Mohan's death penalty, awarded by the trial court, to life sentence and had acquitted all others due to lack of evidence. 

Besides Lovely Anand, former state Minister Akhlaq Ahmed, former MLA Arun Kumar, MLA (JD-U) from Lalganj Vijay Kumar Shukla alias Munna Shukla, Shashi Shekhar and Harendra Kumar were acquitted.

Mohan, former MP from Sheohar, was awarded life term under Sections 302 (murder) and 109 (abetment of offence). 

Additional District and Sessions Judge R S Rai had on October 3, 2007 awarded death sentence to Mohan, Ahmed and Arun Kumar and life imprisonment to Lovely Anand, Munna Shukla, Shashi Shekhar and Harendra Kumar. 

Anand Mohan, who was the leader of the then Bihar People's Party (BPP) at the time of the murder, and his wife were accused of inciting a mob to lynch Krishnaiah. The BPP is now defunct. 

Krishnaiah was lynched by a mob accompanying the cortege of a BPP leader Chotan Shukla on December 5, 1994. The officer was pulled out of a car, beaten up mercilessly and then shot dead.
